Chemo Has Begun

Thank you for all your prayers on Tuesday (and beyond). It went smooth, but was a very long day. Jon was with me most of the day. My Mom was on hand to help out with kids and errands. I had to have blood drawn first thing, and then I met with my Oncologist to have her sign off on the chemo. Apparently, it takes time to mix the chemo according to my blood count, so Jon and I had lunch.

I started chemo at 12:30. It takes 1/2 hour for the Abraxane, and 1/2 to flush the line. Because it was my first day, the nurse took two vials of blood every 1/2 hour until 2:30. Jon took me home. Val Fee took me back at 4:30 for a blood draw, and we had to hang around for a 6:30 and 8:30 blood draw. A long day, but thankful for Jon and Val who stuck it out with me.

Today I was feeling good most of the day, but started to get a bit achy by early evening and then had a headache. I had been guzzling water all day, so I don't think the headache is dehydration. I am also having major hot flashes tonight!

All in all, I can't complain. I did find out that Tuesdays will be a long morning. I thought I could fly in and get the infusion done in an hour. I found out that I will have to have blood drawn every Tuesday morning, wait for the mixing of the chemo, and then have it administered. Thankfully, the chemo is light and will not cause side effects that would keep me from driving there on my own. The biggest side effect will be fatigue.

Thank you to everyone for their support. We have had some delicious meals, which has helped take that burden off me this week.

Love,
Sandy
