"Because the Lord helps me, I will not be dismayed; therefore, I have set my face like flint to do His will, and I know that I will triumph." Isaiah 50:7
After two weeks of not being able to have chemotherapy due to low platelets, when the blood test came back yesterday that the platelets had still not gone up, I knew that there was news that I did not want to hear. Just because you don't want to hear it does not mean that it won't be told.
The news was that the cancer, that has been on the outside of my bone trying to get in, has finally made it to my bone marrow. So, like so many times before, I started a new chemotherapy with a new fight on my hands. Wait! The fight is not on my hands, it is in the Lord's hands!
Sure, I had a good cry. I am only human. It came when my husband walked in the room and I started balling and wondering why I could not catch a break lately. Then he handed me a letter that has just arrived in the mail from a young graduate friend of ours. She wrote a letter to us all expressing her love for us and how she went through a time of doubting her faith, but then looked at ours and knew that there was a God. Let's just say God's timing of "news" and "letter" is very precise and meaningful.
I have several tests coming up that need immediately prayer. A brain MRI tomorrow for shingles/headache I have been having. An ultrasound of kidneys and liver, just to be sure nothing going on there. Bone Scan next Monday. All test that come with news. Good or bad.
I opened up my Dotie Osteen devotional book this morning and today's devotion was titled, "Do Not Be Dismayed." Perfect timing, again!
It started with the above verse then went on to encourage believers that they don't have to be dismayed when troubles try to overwhelm them. Dismay means to be filled with dread or fear so that one is not sure what to do. However, when you remain full of confidence in God, you will triumph in troublesome situations because you know that God is on your side.
In Psalm 42:11, David said, "But O my soul, don't be discouraged. Don't be upset. Expect God to act! For I know that I shall again have plenty of reason to praise Him for all that He will do. He is My help! He is my God!"
What amazing words! Hope in a better future comes from Biblical promises like that! It is why today is a new day (for me) with peace and comfort found in God's Word. I will not be anxiously awaiting bad news, but be trusting that no matter what I hear, God loves me and will be in control.
It is my prayer that whatever giants you have to face today, you will stand firm knowing that God is standing with you and is ready to help. Turn you face toward Him, and His will. Let Him be your God!
Heavenly Father,
Today I am not dismayed! I have faith that you will act on my behalf. I will set my face like flint to do your will. The fire of your love and promises burns inside of me, and I want to share it with the world. I know you will help me to triumph over every situation. There is never news that you can't take and use for your glory. I praise your holy name!
Love,
Sandy
