Week of May 14-18

Today we saw a Neurosurgeon. He explained that the x-rays are showing a very unstable spine. I could go ahead with radiation to shrink the tumor, but the bone could become very unstable and I would risk being paralyzed. He highly recommended surgery as soon as possible so they could stabilize my neck. He would be able to remove 95% of the tumor and (in very simple terms) he would be putting a cage-like device around my vertebrae to strengthen it. It will be major surgery and I will be in the hospital for 3-4 days. I think the technical term is a 2nd Level Vertebrectomy. Three weeks after the surgery I will start radiation along with some type of systemic control. There will be no breast cancer surgery because the cancer has already spread.

The surgery has been set for May 30th. We are confident in the doctor and that this is the right step to take. My Oncologist has concurred and my job is to stay healthy, don't do anything with my neck, and stay positive.

Isaiah 40:31 But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Honestly, Jon and I have both had some weary moments, but God is so faithful. He gives us just enough grace and strength for today. The moment we look to the future it gets overwhelming. We stand on God's promise that he wants to strengthen us. We believe that God will show us His incredible power through this experience. The hardest part is walking through the valley, even when you know God is but a breathe away.

Thank you for your support, prayers and encouragement. You are all amazing. We are sorry if we have not returned phone calls. It has been a busy week.

Love in Christ,
Sandy
