Starting Fresh

My family took our motor home down to San Diego after Christmas. It was a wonderful family time (when the girls were not arguing), and we had a chance to talk about some of our goals for the new year. Goals have always been important in our family. Jon taught me before we were married to think ahead and write down what was important for me to accomplish in the new year. We always try to make our goals ones that we can track. Michelle has a goal to hit a home run this year. A great goal because she can train for that, think positive about it, and make it happen.

The beginning of the year is always a bit refreshing because you get to start over. It helps you to say, "last year I did not do so hot, this year it will be different." It is nice to have a new calendar to fill up, and a new hope for good times ahead. However, the new year can also bring fear of the unknown. Will I lose someone I love this year? Will business get better? Will there be pain?

We may not know what the new year will bring, but we can be assured that God knows us and will equip us for whatever comes our way. God has a positive outlook for each of us, we need to listen to His calling and seek what He wants us to do. I have been seeking and praying about one of my biggest goals for the new year. I want to write a book. It will take discipline and time, but I believe it is God's purpose for me. I would have never entertained the idea of writing a book without walking through the fire of cancer and coming out the other end unscathed because of my hope and faith in Christ.

I pray that whatever you face in the new year, you can be assured that there is a loving God who wants you to call on Him. It does not matter what you did last year, or the years before. He is willing to wipe the slate clean with His blood and start being a part of your life. Make your relationship with God a top Goal for the new year.

Blessings,
Sandy
