I remember the summer after I graduated from High School. I was helping with VBS at Hacienda Heights Baptist Church, and the news broke that Keith Green had died in an airplane crash. This was in 1982, and Keith Green was like a rocker in Christian Music. Unlike today where our youth have lots of popular Christian Bands, Keith Green was a maverick for that time. When I heard that he died while flying with his two young children, I think it was the first time that I realized that bad things can happen to good people. It hit me hard. Why would God take a man (and children) who was doing his work? I don't know the answer, but I do know that God does not play with us like toys, but shows us great love and compassion. I wonder today if his wife and remaining kids have ever had an "aha moment" where they could see how Keith's death touched many lives. I bet they have. It is still not fair.
I still enjoy Keith Green's music. I was walking this morning, and one of his songs came on that always stirs my soul. I am grateful that the words to this song are as valid today as they were back in 1982....... Download This, Sandy
Your Love Broke Through
Like a foolish dreamer, trying to build a highway to the sky,
All my hopes would come tumbling down, and I never knew just why,
Until today, when you pulled away the clouds that hung like curtains on my eyes,
Well I've been blind all these wasted years and I though I was so wise,
But then you took me by surprise.
Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seemed,
until your love broke through,
I've been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me,
Until your love broke through.
All my life I've been searching for that crazy missing part,
And with one touch, you just rolled away the stone that held my heart,
And now I see that the answer was as easy, as just asking you in,
And I am so sure I could never doubt your gentle touch again,
It's like the power of the wind.
Like waking up from the longest dream, how real it seemed,
until your love broke through,
I've been lost in a fantasy, that blinded me,
Until your love, until your love, broke through.
