It is not uncommon for people to have a Global Positioning System (GPS) in their car. If you don't know what a GPS is, I will explain. It is a little computer that goes in a car and the driver programs in a home address and the address of their destination. A computer activated voice will direct the driver so that they don't have to look at a map or read street signs. As you approach a turn the voice will say, "make a right in .2 miles." You can also program the voice to be male or female. Both voices are very calm and polite.
There are people (like my Dad) who think they know a better way and do not take the advice of the GPS. If you go a different route, the voice sounds a little agitated and says, "recalculate." The GPS will recalculate and get you back to the original route. Sometimes the voice will insist that you make a U-turn. It will say, "when it is safe, make a u-turn."
I need a GPS for my life. I often get off track and take my own route instead of the route God intends for me. He gave me free will, so I can make my own decisions, but sometimes I make the wrong choices. I become self reliant instead of relying on God. I try to make things happen that I shouldn't, and I think that I can handle the plans for my future better than my creator. If I could learn to seek God's will in all things, I would surely save myself a lot of grief. I sometimes pray after the fact instead of before. I want to be the hub of my own wheel.
Thankfully, I have a God who is always ready to recalculate my route and lead me back to safety. I have a God who says that there is always opportunity to make a U-turn and change my direction. I have a God who forgives and wipes the slate clean and restores me back to the child He wants me to be. All it takes is a prayer and a request for forgiveness. I think people make their relationship with God too difficult, when in reality it is very simple. Seek a relationship with God and follow His paths. It is harder to walk through life without the knowledge that God has a plan and purpose for your life than it is to obey His commands.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. Isaiah 53:6
It is important to be in communication with God so that you know His path for you. I know in my heart that God has a plan for me that is better than I could have ever hoped for. He has already proven that by putting my cancer in His hands, HE can do more with it than I could have ever envisioned. I want God to be my GPS and recalculate my paths when I stray away from Him. There is nothing like the assurance of being in God's loving embrace and walking in His will. I hope that you are on God's path today. If not, let him recalculate your life and give you peace and assurance. He has a route already picked out for you!
God Bless,
Sandy
