Jon and I are blessed to be a part of a wonderful small group with three other couples. We pray for each other, and are accountable to each other. We also spend time in some kind of study. Sometimes the study is directly from the Bible, and sometimes we do a book study. We just finished the book by John MacArthur called "Twelve Ordinary Men".
This book is a character study on the twelve disciples, and we all learned a lot about these men who traveled with Jesus. The title says it all. These men were truly ordinary. They were not scholars or priests or political figures. We know that four of them were fishermen, and one was a tax collector. When Jesus asked them to follow him, they all said yes immediately. They had been looking for the Messiah. Jesus selected each one of them because He knew their potential and their faults. Jesus even chose Judas knowing that he would later betray Him.
The founding of the entire church hinged on these men, and Jesus did not have a long time to train them. On the night that Jesus was betrayed, they all fled in fear. However, when they became witnesses to Jesus' resurrection, they could not keep quiet. They had to step out and be bold about what they had seen. The eleven men then went out and preached the gospel. Everyone but John was martyred.
This is a good lesson for us today. These twelve men were like us. They were not worthy or qualified to be used by God, yet that is the beauty of it. It is through their weaknesses, and ours, that God can do mighty things. I am a great example of an ordinary girl who is seeing God work in extraordinary ways. He know all of my faults and weaknesses, yet he has confidence in me.
I love the creative way God works. It is usually not the way we picture it to be, it is better! I get excited each time I talk to God about my cancer. I know that He has something very creative and powerful planned, and I seek to do it His way.
I hope you are letting God use you in creative and powerful ways! It just takes a simple yes to His will and a no to your own.
God Bless,
Sandy
