A Thankful Attitude

Give thanks to the Lord, proclaim his name; make known among the nations what he has done.
2 Sing to him, sing praise to him; tell of all his wonderful acts.3 Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the Lord rejoice.4 Look to the Lord and his strength;
seek his face always.  Psalm 105

This has been a challenging year for our family.  Jon's heart started fluttering in January and did not get resolved until September.  My Dad was in the hospital 6 weeks in the summer.  My mother had hip replacement.  I had some struggles with pain and a change in chemo.

Through it all we each have stories of comfort and peace that could only come through our relationship with God.  He used friends to minister to us, and we kept a joyful heart even when it would have been hard to find something positive.

Everyone I know is looking forward to Thanksgiving, and for many, it is their favorite holiday.  It is a day to relax with family and just be thankful.  It is nice to have a holiday that does not involve gift giving (other than the gift of being together), and is about good food!

God asks us to be thankful in all circumstances.  Our thankfulness during hard times is not a denial of reality, but an acknowledgment before God that He is our refuge and strength, which is the intimate communication and trust that He wants from us.

Praising God in the midst of a storm is the most powerful place you will ever be in.  It is in that moment you truly see heaven, and the power of thankfulness starts an upward spiral of healing and peace.  One remembrance that we can all be thankful for is the price Jesus paid on the cross for us.  There is not a single situation that life can throw at you that can take away the truth that your debt of sin has been paid for.  If you accept this free gift, and be thankful for it,  you will lay down an unshakable foundation.

When Jesus taught His disciples how to pray, He started the prayer with praise.  Instead of going into a laundry lists of needs, just start by thanking God for His holiness and the wonders He has created.  Thank God for the way in which He loves us, and then pray for His will to be done (which is always better than our will).

It is my prayer that you and your family have a relaxing and peaceful day (No talk about politics!) this Thursday.  Be thankful that we live in a free country, that we have each other, and that God loves you so much He paid the price for your sins.

Blessings,
Sandy
