This is going to be fun to tell!
Last week I had a CT Scan and a Bone Scan, which is done after two months of chemo. Monday, I saw my doctor and she went over the scans. In a mind boggling twist, the CT Scan is telling us that the lesions on my liver are looking benign! I had to look at it again and again because it was not registering right away. What does this mean?
For the past two years, I have CT Scans that have all shown no metastatic disease on my internal organs. This past September, my CT Scan showed spots on my liver. Because I have Metastatic Breast Cancer, it was determined that the disease had spread to my liver, a very good assumption based on my history. There was no need to biopsy anything. My treatment was changed from an oral medication, and a once a month infusion to strengthen my bones, to a weekly chemo. Since September, I have had two CT Scans, and the lesion are not behaving in a manner consistent with malignant tumors. The question is, were they malignant before, or did we not know for sure because there was not a biopsy? At any rate, it is an unusual turn of events, and one to be celebrated!
This does not change the fact that I need chemo to keep the cancer from spreading. Chemo was always my next step in treatment, however, the weekly dosage will be reduced to help ease some of the side effects (numbness/tingling in feet and hands). Also, I will be having a blood transfusion on Monday to help with my very low red blood count. This should give me a boost of energy, as I have been anemic for quite some time and I am very tired.
Wow! We are still trying to process this news! I think that anyway you look at it, God deserves a big round of applause! This is an "unusual turn of events" by medical standards, but was not hard at all for God to orchestrate! He works in mysterious ways! I feel that He has spoken in a powerful way, reminding us all that anything is possible through Him, and that He hears our prayers and they count!
I know that hundreds of you have prayed for healing, and this is a big step. It helps turn back the clock a little bit so that we are not feeling the weight of cancer progression in the liver. I will continue to get scanned every two months, so we will keep a close eye on this, but for now we are doing a little "happy dance" and enjoying the moment.
Ironically, my Bible Study Group just started a study on prayer. Our key verse this week is John 16:23-24
Jesus said, "I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete."
My family prays each night asking for miracles big and small. This may not be the big miracle we were hoping for, but it is a great gift from God all the same. We ask you all to continue to pray for healing of metastatic cancer. We also ask that God will continue to reveal His power through this journey we are on.
Doing a jig!
