Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Pink is everywhere and it should be a reminder to all of you women to get a mammogram! (Yes, Sandy has had them on a regular basis all along!) If your Insurance won't pay for it, you might want to pay out of pocket for an ultra sound too..........
It's that time of year again when I find myself licking clean the foil lids from the tops of Yoplait Yogurt. (Ok, so I normally do that anyway, even when they are not pink and I'm trying to save them!) Now I also wash them off and put them in a baggie to send in. Yoplait donates .10 cents per lid to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. As of this morning, they have collected 744,528 lids, which is a donation of $74,452. (And Rachel thinks I can't help her with her Math homework....) Yoplait also guarantees to donate at least $500,000 and up to $1.5 million! So start saving those lids, and if you want me to send them in for you, just let me know. You have until 12/31/08 to send them in.
It's also that time of year when I find myself very busy with soccer. AYSO (All of Your Saturday Occupied) is in full swing, and it takes an enormous volunteer effort to pull it off. Thank you to everyone in Region 112 for all you do! For all of you soccer fans who would like to support the fight against breast cancer, the Amercian soccer initiative supports the Kicks Against Breast Cancer Pin Project to help women with cancer survive and thrive. You can buy really cool soccer ball pins with pink ribbons on them for your teammates, family, friends, players, and coaches. 100% of all profits go to the Claudia Mayer Cancer Resource and Image Center. For details, go to http://www.kicksagainstbreastcancer.org/.
Even the NFL has gotten involved. I was watching games on Sunday and the refs had pink pins on their shirts and pink braclets on their wrists. I guess if the guys who are dealing with 280 pound lineman can get involved, so can the rest of us. There are things we can do to make a difference. Little steps can make a tremendous impact. Which is a terrific segway to the annual City of Hope LA Walk For Hope to Cure Breast Cancer event on Sunday, November 9th. Join Sandy and I, and her entire Brownie Troop as we walk to raise money for the City of Hope. It's fun, you get a cool T-Shirt, and you haven't lived until you have walked a few miles with an entire Brownie Troop chanting out songs in support of Mrs. B.............
