My Daily Bread devotion this morning was about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and how he conquered fear. In 1956 during some tense days, Dr. King received threatening phone calls that left him terrified. He prayed, "I am here taking a stand for what I believe is right. But Lord, I must confess that I'm weak now, I'm faltering. I'm losing my courage."
Dr. King later wrote, "At that moment I experienced the presence of the Divine as I never experienced Him before. It seemed as though I could hear the quiet assurance of an inner voice saying, 'Stand up for righteousness, stand up for truth, and God will be at your side forever.' Almost at once my fears began to go. My uncertainty disappeared. I was ready to face anything."
We have all experienced fear in our life. Fear for a relationship that has gone bad, fear for safety of a loved one, fear of disease. As we remember Dr. King today, we should all remember that when we have fear we can call upon God to deliver us and give us peace. When the word of God gets deep into your heart, you will realize that there is no place for fear.
The Lord is my light and my salvation, who shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Psalm 27:1
May God give you peace,
Sandy
