For Lent this year I gave up Candy (Peanut Butter Eggs get me every time) and things that take up my time and brain space. It is easy to pick up the People Magazine instead of a publication that is more meaningful (like the Bible). I found I was rushing through my Bible Study and not digging in to the important message God wanted for me. If you were at a loss as to what to give up for Lent, here is an e-mail that came to me that I thought was powerful. It is not too late, three weeks is better than none!
Lent can be more than a time of fasting, it can be a season of feasting. We can use Lent to fast from certain things and to feast on others. It is a season in which we can:
• Fast from judging others; feast on the Christ dwelling in them.
• Fast from apparent darkness; feast on the reality of light.
• Fast from thoughts of fear; feast on the healing power of God.
• Fast from words that pollute; feast on phrases that purify.
• Fast from discontent; feast on gratitude.
• Fast from anger; feast on patience.
• Fast from worry; feast on hope
• Fast from complaining; feast on appreciation.
• Fast from negatives; feast on affirmatives.
• Fast from bitterness; feast on forgiveness.
• Fast from self-concern; feast on compassion for others.
• Fast from idle gossip; feast on purposeful silence.
• Fast from problems that overwhelm; feast on prayer that lifts us up.
There is a lot of fasting and feasting that I could be doing throughout the entire year!
