Trust in the Lord

Psalm 37
Of David.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD;
trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn,
the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
9 For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more;
though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land
and enjoy great peace.

I love this Psalm. I especially love the part about delighting in the Lord. Sometimes I just stand in awe of the power of God. I admit, there are times I am too busy running around to stop and just delight. But, when I clear time (quality time) to be with God, I just love the relationship we have. I delight in the ways He provides for my family spiritually. I delight in the friends He puts before me. I delight that God has given me the desire of my heart, which is to be a light for Him. Not just in the good times, but at all times.

Many of us are facing hard times right now. God does not wish for us to paint a fake smile on our face and say everything is good. We can mourn what is lost, but then delight in what we have remaining. God understands our pain. What he really wants is for "our righteousness to shine like the day". That means to me that when times are hard, I focus on what God wants me to learn. What do I need to give up that is worldly and meaningless so that I am prepared for something more meaningful in my life. This isn't always a quick fix. God asks us to wait on Him.

It is hard to be patient. We want our situation to be fixed ASAP! It is really hard to wait when we are in pain or there is turmoil. It takes discipline to wait on an answer. If we jump ahead of God and try to fix it ourselves, we may be missing out on what He wants us to learn. Suffering is not a punishment from God. Sometimes we suffer because of our own choices, but God can use our suffering to refine us and open our hearts for something better and purposeful.

I pray that if you are suffering, that God will reveal to you the ways you can be productive for Him in the midst of your trial. I pray that you can find ways to delight in the Lord. When you find ways to get joy into your day, pretty soon it will not be so dark.

God Bless,

Sandy
